The story
The Gin & Tonic was a colonial medical intervention — quinine in tonic water to prevent malaria, gin to make the quinine's bitterness palatable for British soldiers in India. The drink's move from medicine to pleasure was rapid. Today, in Spain's Basque Country, the Copa de Balón — balloon glass, generous ice, artisanal tonic — has elevated the G&T to a near-religious experience. Juliet Gin's lemon and cherry profile makes the garnish choices obvious: lemon verbena to amplify the citrus, a dried cherry to echo the gin's stone fruit note, and thin cucumber to add freshness. Premium tonic is non-negotiable. Fever-Tree Mediterranean or a floral artisan variety — the gin and tonic are equal partners.
Tasting note
This is what gin and tonic becomes when you care. The verbena and cherry garnish amplify Juliet Gin's native flavours, the floral tonic adds a second layer of botanicals, and the cucumber keeps the whole thing spring-clean. Drink it in a garden if one is available.
