The Aperitif Hour

A Negroni riff for people who drink vodka.

The Aperitif Hour

  • 40 ml Latitude 42 Vodka
  • 30 ml Aperol
  • 25 ml sweet vermouth
  • 10 ml elderflower liqueur
  • 2 dashes orange bitters

Method

Stir. Serve in a Rocks glass (large). Garnish with Orange zest twist.

Sweet vermouth: Carpano Antica or Dolin Rouge.

The story

The Negroni is a gin drink. Always has been. And yet — the 'vodka Negroni,' more formally called a Negroski, has quietly earned a place on menus from London to Los Angeles. It trades the botanicals of gin for vodka's neutrality, which paradoxically allows the Campari and vermouth to speak more clearly. This spring variant swaps Campari for Aperol — lighter, more citrus-forward, lower in bitterness — and adds a dash of elderflower to bridge Latitude 42's clean character with the floral sweetness of the season. It's an aperitif in the truest sense: a drink that opens the appetite and announces that something wonderful is about to happen.

Tasting note

Deep amber with orange highlights. Bittersweet, with elderflower lifting the Aperol's orange character and Latitude 42's clean finish providing the backbone.
