Springtime Whisky Highball

- long lemon peel spiral
Method

Chilled sparkling water: Fever-Tree or Topo Chico.
The story
The Japanese whisky highball — whisky and chilled sparkling water, served in a frozen glass with precision — is one of the most influential cocktail formats of the 21st century. Suntory turned it into a national movement. It taught drinkers that dilution isn't a weakness; it's a lens. A highball reveals what a whisky is actually made of. Wandering Rye's blended complexity makes for a revelatory highball. The rye's spice character becomes more accessible; the corn whiskies' sweetness becomes almost effervescent. A long spiral of lemon peel — expressing oil over the surface — adds a citrus brightness that doesn't compete with the whisky but frames it.
Tasting note
Pale gold, beautifully carbonated, smelling of lemon and toasted grain. Wandering Rye's complexity — the rye spice, the corn caramel, the decades of barrel time — comes through more clearly diluted than it does at full strength. This is whisky in its most honest form.
